Anita Chandavarkar

musician, educator

“Anita is my daughter’s second flute teacher. We noticed a huge difference after switching over. Anita observed my daughter’s weekly progress carefully to assign the next songs, instead of following a specific lesson book. By tailoring songs to my daughter’s skill level week by week, my daughter’s flute skills improved much faster and her confidence in flute has increased dramatically. We are with Anita for over a year now, and are very happy we have found her.” -Candice H., parent

“Anita is professional, courteous, flexible, and approachable. My 12-year-old loves her, and that’s saying something! She comes to our house once a week for 45-minutes. Her CV is impressive and she is reachable throughout the week for questions. Highly recommend!” -Mindi S., parent

“We are with Anita for a year. She is excellent as she paces herself to match the student. Very happy with her.” -Durgesh S., parent

Anita teaches private flute lessons in the European classical tradition, for students as young as 7. Lessons are currently done, from the comfort and convenience of the student's home.

Anita has taught, for over 10 years, students from all walks of life, and a wide range of ages and abilities. Many have won first-chair positions into advanced school ensembles, have been prizewinners of major music competitions (VOCE), and have received high honors on their music exams (Certificate of Merit). In 2019, out of 19 students enrolled in the Certificate of Merit exam, 100% of students passed, 7 with high branch honors, and 15 with state honors. Anita also hopes, in addition to her students achieving highly, she can instill in them the joy of music making!

Lessons include technique and scales, interpretation, theory, and history. She is certified to teach for Certificate of Merit flute exams, and can also prepare students for such international exams as those from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, and the Royal Conservatory of Music. Anita is also an active member of the National Flute Association, and encourages her more advanced students to participate in various high school competitions from that organization.

Performance experience is paramount to musical growth. Anita provides performance experiences — both solo and ensemble — for her students, through studio recitals held two times a year, and various public performance opportunities, such as masterclasses, and volunteer performances.

Anita also teaches Winter and Summer lessons, for those who want to prepare for auditions or masterclasses, learn enough fundamentals to join school ensembles, or to just have fun!
